We went for the afternoon tea. Booked well in advance. On the day we were informed there were no cupcakes so only a choice of tray bakes( not very appealing). The sandwiches were cheese , beef which was thick and stringy, and smoked salmon which neither of us like , so we asked if that could be exchanged for something. We were told that's as the afternoon tea comes and can't offer anything else. Waitress was not very pleasant and we didn't enjoy any of it except the coffee . Won't go again.

Purchased a bakewell pudding online 7 days ago and never arrived, called the shop and asked to speak to the manager and was told i will get call shortly, 2 hrs later i called back a 2nd time and was told 'very sorry we are now busy with the lunch time period the manager will return your call very soon.....guess what no call back. Reported to trading standards as they have failed to supply the goods i have paid for over a week ago. EDIT- My order arrived a few days later, tasted nice but as other reviews have stated there wasn't much fruit sauce in the centre of the bakewell pudding and feel there wasnt as much substance to as they used to be...nevermind.

Less than one star. Staff member really rude. Tutting at me and rolling her eyes. Food was not up to much either, very expensive.

Saturday 22nd Feb 25, 12:00 - 13:00. Busy with a 10 minute wait for a table. Given menus while waiting. Directed (not taken) to table when available but no order taken for about another 5 minutes or so. Ordered drinks with food, drinks arrived promptly. Not asked which bread options on food (Sourdough or Flaked Malt) at order. The Brie Paninni is a toastie, the Fish Finger Sandwich is two large goujons between a lower bread layer spread with tartar sauce, top layer plain. Chips on both dishes were just warm. A additional order of tea was requested but we were uncertain if it was going to come as the waiter said “you’ll have to give me a minute”. We waited another 10 minutes and decided it wasn’t coming and just as we were putting our coats on it arrived. Prices are clear on menu but no itemised receipt is offered at payment. We didn’t complain, but we didn’t leave a tip. Would we return? Unlikely.

There was a long queue when I went in and an even longer queue when I went out! I ordered a small bakewell pudding and a slice of bakewell tart with almond slices. Both tasted good. We preferred the tart w almonds. Delicious!

Amazing place with really really good food. Shop has a lot of things to buy. Restaurant is really cosy, nice chilled music, and staff are friendly and approachable. We had the Bakewell pudding and tart - had cream and custard for each. Can’t decide which is a better combo! Best place to eat in Bakewell and is highly recommended.

Morrisons Derby and Belper sell their Bakewell tarts in store. On every occasion they’ve been dry and barely any jam in the middle. Not worth the money

Decent flavours but nowhere near enough jam in the bakewell puddings; it was even nonexistent in places! Staff wasn't the friendliest either.

No traditional menu, apart from Bakwell pudding. The only option for myself and my partner was a jacket potato - £11.00 for a small baked potato with very little cheese and a few salad leaves. This strikes me as an eatery that is trying to impress with a menu tailored for city life rather than a quaint countryside village. Definitely won’t be returning.

Very disappointed. We visited in September 2024 while on holiday in the Peak District and made a special trip to Bakewell. Having heard the reputation of this (and other) bakeries and tea shops, we decided to check this one out as it claims to be the 'original' Bakewell Tart shop. We queued for well over 15 minutes just to buy three items, with a single member of staff serving at the till. We bought a couple of Bakewell Tarts and some fudge, and neither were anything special. The tart was too sweet and overcooked to the point of being dry and scorched, and the goods were massively overpriced. We've had much tastier (and cheaper) versions from the local supermarket! All in all, a disappointing experience, and we wouldn't bother going back.
